Low-Sodium Water Brands For Better Hydration

Staying hydrated is important, and water is usually our first choice to quench our thirst. But for those of us who need to watch our sodium intake, finding the right water brand can be tricky. Luckily, there are low-sodium water options available to keep you hydrated, and there are even some brands that offer sodium-free water.

Sodium is a mineral often naturally found in water, but sometimes it’s added to bottled water for taste or to help athletes balance their fluids. Too much sodium can be bad for your health, especially if you have conditions like high blood pressure, stroke, kidney disease, or heart disease. For the average person a limit of 20 milligrams of sodium per liter of drinking water is recommended. So, it’s important to be mindful of your sodium intake.

To make it easier for you, we’ve put together a list of bottled water brands that have lower sodium levels than others. These brands are a good choice if you’re watching your sodium intake and want to stay hydrated in a healthy way.

10 Brands Of Bottled Water With No (Or Low) Sodium

brands of water that are low in sodium (less than 20 mg/L) or are sodium free, including Aqaufina, Dasani, Smartwater and Poland Spring Water

1. Aquafina

Sodium Content:  0 mg/L (sodium-free)

Aquafina water is purified by multiple methods, including reverse osmosis. These purification methods remove things like salts, chlorine and plenty of other contaminants that you don’t want to drink. They also make Aquafina sodium-free.

It has a clean, pure taste that is all water, and nothing else.

2. Dasani Purified Water

Sodium Content:  0 mg/L (sodium-free)

Each bottle of Dasani water is purified by reverse osmosis. A process that removes more contaminants than any other filter.

After the purification process, Dasani adds minerals back into the water to give it the fresh, crisp taste it’s known for. Even though extra minerals are added, salt is not one of them, leaving Dasani free of sodium.

3. Crystal Geyser Alpine Spring Water

Sodium Content:  0 mg/L (sodium-free)

Crystal Geyser water comes from seven different springs located across the country, including the Cherokee National Forest (TN) and Mount Shasta (CA). The water is filtered before it is bottled, but because of the multiple water sources used the amount of sodium does vary.

In most bottles the sodium content will be zero (which is why it says it’s sodium-free on the nutrition label), but there have been some bottles recording sodium levels as high as 11 mg/L. Fortunately, this is still well below the recommended limit of 20 milligrams of sodium per liter of drinking water.

4. Core Hydration

Sodium Content:  0 mg/L (sodium-free)

Core Hydration is advertised as sodium-free water. It’s interesting that Core Hydration water is free of sodium since it is pumped full of electrolytes and minerals, which would usually include sodium.

Because of its enhanced flavor we recommend just buying one bottle first, to see if you enjoy the crisp taste of the added electrolytes.

5. Smartwater

Sodium Content:  0 mg/L (sodium-free)

Smartwater is actually distilled spring water that is sodium-free.

After the distillation process, the pure spring water has electrolytes added to boost its fresh taste. Smartwater add calcium chloride, magnesium chloride and potassium bicarbonate.

Purifying water can often give it a bitter taste, so by adding these minerals Smartwater has not only improved the flavor but also your hydration.

6. Ice Mountain Spring Water

Sodium Content:  0 mg/L (sodium-free)

Ice Mountain Natural Spring Water has no sodium content. This brand has been a favorite for generations and offers premium spring water in every bottle.

This water is treated by a 12-step filtration process that removes a variety of contaminants, including sodium. Minerals are then added to the water to give it a clean, crisp taste that will quench your thirst.

7. Poland Spring Water

Sodium Content:  1.3 mg/L

Poland Spring Water is drawn from springs in Maine, and has remained unchanged since the first bottle in 1845. With a low sodium content of 1.3 mg/L it’s an ideal choice if you are looking to maintain a low salt intake.

In fact, Poland spring water can sometimes be sodium-free, but because it’s natural spring water the amount can change from bottle to bottle. Either way their water quality reports show that each bottle will only have a small amount of sodium in their water if any at all!

This water is great-tasting natural spring water that will quench your thirst. The bottle also comes in a range of shapes and sizes that are all convenient to bring wherever you go.

7. Pure Life Bottled Purified Water

Sodium Content:  4.8 mg/L

Nestlé Pure Life offers water with a low-sodium content of 4.8 mg/L. Every drop of water goes through a multi-step filtration process that removes contaminants and anything that could give the water a bad odor or taste.

This pure drinking water is then enriched with minerals. Nestlé Pure Life Bottled Purified Water is popular for a reason – it’s refreshing flavor.

9. Evian Natural Spring Water

Sodium Content:  6.9 mg/L

Evian Natural Spring Water has a low sodium content of 6.9 mg/L. While it’s a little higher than many on our list, it’s low compared to most spring and mineral waters, and is well below the recommended limit of 20 mg/L.

Evian also has a unique, distinctive, smooth taste given by its mineral content, which really sets it apart from other brands of purified water.

Pack them in your bag keep them in your fridge for a cool refreshment any time.

10. Deer Park Sparkling Water

Sodium Content:  7.6 mg/L

Deer Park Sparking Water has 7.6 mg/L sodium, and is the only sparkling water to make it on our list of low sodium water. Its mineral content is responsible for its distinctly natural and crisp taste.

This sparkling water is also available in flavored options – but make sure you read the nutrition label, as several have higher sodium levels.

Benefits Of Drinking Low Sodium Water

Staying properly hydrated by drinking enough water each day is crucial for your overall health. Choosing low-sodium water can help maximize your body’s hydration process.

Here are several reasons why low-sodium water is preferable to regular bottled water:

Blood Pressure Control

Studies have shown that low-sodium water can contribute to a decrease in blood pressure levels by an average of 3 points (for those that suffer from medical conditions)

Kidney Disease Management

Water with less than 20 mg of sodium per serving is considered safe for individuals with kidney disease, which allows them to meet their hydration needs without exacerbating their condition.

It goes without saying that drinking brands of water with higher sodium contents can negatively impact their kidney disease.

Heart Disease and Stroke Prevention

Incorporating low sodium water into your daily routine may help reduce the risk of heart disease and stroke, as excessive sodium intake is associated with these health concerns.

Enhanced Energy Levels

Low sodium water can safely boost energy levels, allowing you to feel more refreshed and revitalized throughout the day.

Weight Loss

In our society, there is a constant quest for the most effective diet that can help with weight loss. This has become a wide-spread issue, with numerous fad diets inundating us, making it challenging to figure out which approach is genuinely beneficial.

Water has always been a crucial element in these diets and plays a major role in managing body weight. It can help suppress hunger cravings, support fat metabolism, regulate calorie intake, and fulfill other vital functions necessary for maintaining optimal health.

Brands of bottled water with low sodium content (or better yet those that are sodium-free) have become more popular as they provide an alternative for those of us seeking to limit our sodium intake. In fact, people who consume low sodium water often have reduced cravings for salty foods such as chips, fries, and pretzels.
